Human beings have never been more connected, but ultimately feel more disconnected than ever. This digital erosion of personal communication and contact has an alienating effect and can be psychologically damaging to many young people. Through carefully staged scenes, the photographs in Saturnine represent a narrative of deep melancholia, where the protagonists are absorbed and lost in their own stories of social isolation and unhappiness, leading to chronic dysphoria.
